I need anti virus program help?

I have norton 2006. It doesnt detect a very large amount of threats adware spyware malware and or keyloggers. My computer is not running correctly and i have been through several free versions of anti virus programs that can detect my threats but not remove them unless i pay. I need to find one that can detect and remove my threats that is free. The top few google repsonses i got are the ones i tried so far and they dont let me remove anything even tho they say they do. If anyone has a working free version they have already used i would very much appreciate the help. Best answer will recieve 10 points when im able to pick one

I agree with the first answer on all their suggestions except ONE..........

PLEASE leave the AVGarbage alone? I _dumped_ it several years ago when I found Avast. Avast gives MUCH superior Real Time protection as compared to AVG. Avast also looks in a LOT more places in your computer than AVG. Avast also UPDATES more often than AVG. I have mine set to update when I boot up every day and then every four hours thereafter.
