Well, this is a bit simplistic, but it might work for you and it doesn't cost money, Thank God. I downloaded a-squared Free 3.0 the other day and told it to do what is called "Deep Scan" which took 2 hours and 40 minutes (yawn), but it came up with three items. A tracking cookie and two adwares. Big deal. But I am thinking that might help you nail what is the culprit. The other little confection you might try out because it opens up space on your hard drive is called DustBuster. It cleared from a previous 48% to a new 53% open space on my (C:) drive with one pass of the program which must have taken all of four minutes. It is a free download, also. Don't be alarmed if some of the program commentary is in Spanish. They just haven't had that part translated yet. Not to worry; it doesn't affect the efficiency of the great little program it is. The program still works fine. If you're skeptical, just read the blurb about it before you download and run it. You can elect to have system tray icon as well as desktop icon if you like, just check either or both of them when asked. I do hope this gives you a couple alternatives to slowsville. Another excellent program is RegClean (also a free download and one of Microsoft's better program efforts for troubleshooting your Registry). There. Three free programs one of which might put a big smile on your face so you can use your laptop like any other sensible human being again in time to resume your college work. Best to you, always. Chris from South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. I am 64, so you just know the programs have to be simple and work right for me to bother with them. All three of these programs work very well indeed and I can recommend them to you without any reservations or cautionary caveats.
