Should I get rid of Mcafee and download AVG?

Hi, I noticed this has been asked 5mths ago but answer was not rated so was unsure if the advice was good.

I downloaded the Free Mcafee from AOL, it is a hog.

I have ad-aware, spybot-search and destroy, spyware blaster, and ccleaner. Should I dispose of Mcafee and reinstall the free version of AVG.

If I am advised to do so, what is the best way to get rid of Mcafee completely and should I do it BEFORE installing AVG (or another recommended programme).

I have windows firewall, any recommendations on keeping it or getting another one would be appreciated.

Just trying to trim the fat. I am pretty good about upkeep but have a teenager who is not quite so careful.

Sounds like you have decent protection. AVG is not a wise move. If McAfee free version through AOL is slowing your computer you may want to get Kaspersky or NOD32.

The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively).

It has been proven ESET NOD32 and Kaspersky are better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (see the consumersearch source for reviews of the top anti-virus products). See recent tests for yourself at av-comparatives.org.
