Computer disk space problem?

My computer had more than 90% of free space on the C drive about 2 days ago and now it only has about 1% of free space left. its capacity is 143GB but i only have 1.03GB left. i already tried getting rid of unwanted programs, tried virus scans about 3 times, done spyware checks 3 times, cleaned out cookies and cache, and i tried a disk cleanup. I also have the same problem with my D drive. it has a capacity of 5.98 GB but only has 994MB of free space left. i haven't downloaded any kind of BIG file and i dont even download tons of music and i do not understand why my computer would have such little space left. I had this problem once before and i had to do a system recovery, that helped, but got rid of all my important files like reports, ect. Help on this problem would be very much appreciated.

There are allot of places that can hide large unwanted files. Do you burn CDs %26 DVDs? If so the entire contenets of each can still be on the system in a hidden folder.

Try http://www.masternewmedia.org/2003/08/30... for a refrence. It seems to suite your problem.

Go to Control Panel%26gt;Add and Remove Programs and check the list that comes up. Any programs that you did NOT load, remove them. Do you play games? Did you load your games to the HDD? They will require a LOT of room if you did! Play them from the CD. Remove them from the HDD.
Sounds like you have the numbers backwards 143 gig is an estimate not an exact number, so having 103 avail from 143 ( what is it a 160 gig wd hdd model 1600? they only register 140+ but actual is smaller, and theres the fact that the O/s takes up space for sys restore etc... so 101gig of 143gig is not 1 % free space more like 1% fragmentation perhaps? try doing a new defragment and recheck your numbers...as well as correctly identifying the values...
try ccleaner

it always helped me

(don't do dvd copies, they take up 4 gb a copy!)
