You should never run more than one antivirus and firewall a the same time. You can run as many antispyware, online scans, or other malware detection and removal tools as your system resources can handle. Antivirus programs detect, and attack each other as virus'. This can at best slow your system down, at worst lockup your system to the point only a professional can correct the problem.

Norton and MacAfee are bloatware. They take up an increible amount of resources. There are several very good freeware antivirus* on the market, all of which have a subscription version.

I run a layered protection at my home on all my computers (13 desktop, 2 servers).

I have the following in list of importance.

1. AntiVirus-AVG Free Edition

2. AntiSpyware-Spoybot, SpywareGuard, MS Defender, SpywareBlaster, Ewido, a虏, AdAware

3. Firewall-SyGate 5.6 (Free edition)

4. Router- Hardware firewall

5. Windows Automatic Updates

6. Email Scanner- A feature of AVG
